Year Six Flatclassroom Project: The Frame and The Plan

We are taking part in an exciting international 'flat classroom' project where we are writing a story with a partner...a partner who lives on the other side of the Atlantic.

Learn more about our flat classroom project at the Crogan's Adventures Flat Classroom Wiki.

Task: Please type up your 'frame story' on your wiki page.

1. Please put the frame story at the top of the page (move your discussions with your partner lower down)
2. Put a sub-heading and label it ===Frame Story: First Draft===
3. Make sure you leave a line between paragraphs.
4. Put any thoughts in italics
4. Proof read your draft - make sure there are not any 'silly' typing errors.

Due: Tuesday.

Year Six Flat Classroom Project: Type Up Your Plan

Year Six are writing stories with girls on the other side of the world at the Crogan's Adventure Flat Classroom Wiki.

Homework
Please go onto your wiki page and type up your three suggested plans. Indicate to your partner which of the plans is your favourite.

Make sure your plans include:
1. Characters (Who is in the story?)
2. Location (Where is the story set? In which historical period?)
3. A detailed plan (remember, it must make sense to a partner on the other side of the planet)

Tomorrow we'll think about the 'frame story' in more detail.

Your task for the weekend is to complete the Crogan Family tree brainstorm task:

1. For each of the Crogan’s, write two/three ideas for an adventure they might have

Year 6 Flat World Stories & School Magazine Work - Writing a Second Draft

In class we looked at giving positive, constructive feedback using the 'elbow' and PQP methods. Using the feedback you received on your first attempt, I want you to write a second draft of your story.

Don't forget you can revise the key description and characterisation techniques that should be at the heart of any story you write at Bald Worm.

Half-term Holiday Homework

What a term we've had! Year 5 have learnt all about planning a story, suspense and action techniques, and been introduced to 11+-style comprehensions; Year 6 have been revising the structure of the first 15 lines of a short story and key characterisation techniques, and learnt about Sherlock Holmes and the writing of Charles Dickens. We've learnt about kinesthetic and musical learning techniques, and used podcasts and Animoto videos to share our creativity with the world! Best of all, we're beginning to connect, create and collaborate with pupils on the other side of the world!

Next half-term should be even more exciting! Year 5 will learning about writing longer descriptions, and be taking part in their first global collaborative flat classroom project - Books Go Global; Year 6 will complete their preparation for the 11+ examinations.

Year 5 holiday homework can be found here; Year 6 holiday homework here. Don't forget there are lists of 'great reads' in Bald Worm's reading lists.

Have a great holiday!

Flat Classroom Project: Time Zone Experiences

Flatclassroom projects are lessons that use Web 2.0 tools - things like wikis, blogs, podcasts and videos - to communicate and collaborate with pupils on the other side of the world.

We've just joined a new flat classroom project - Time Zone Experiences - where we are going to share details of our day with pupils in the USA and Australia (don't worry: we won't be sharing any personal details or posting pictures), creating some work in our IT lessons for them to enjoy, and learning about their lives.

Click on the link to learn more: http://timezoneexperiences.wikispaces.com/Who+Are+We%3F

Want to start getting involved? Click on the link and start adding 'What we are doing at this time?' Make sure you write in the correct column (the GMT Falcons column!): http://timezoneexperiences.wikispaces.com/Time+Zone+Chart
