Year Five and Six Easter Holiday Homework

What a term at West London's Most Creative Preparatory School! Year Six achieved some super results in the 11+ examinations, and have begun working on the school play and the International Primary Curriculum. We have high hopes of doing well in the World Maths Day video competition, too! Year Five have been working hard to improve their comprehension and story writing skills, getting set to 'ace' their 11+ next January.

Don't forget that there are lots of helpful videos at FalconsTube, and all the advice you need about writing a brilliant short story at baldworm.co.uk - which has now received over 75,000 hits since 2007! Cool!

Have a great break! When you get back, Bald Worm will have some exciting news for you about our plans for promoting reading at Falcons Girls...

Year Five Comprehension: Annotate, annotate, annotate!

In class we've been revising the importance of completing the following tasks every time we attempt an 11+ comprehension paper:
* Underline the key words
* Summarise the paragraphs
* Annotate the passage with question numbers - find the evidence!

Task: Please complete the 'Tell Me No More Lies' comprehension.

(P.S. The Bald Worm Comprehension site is down at the moment due to technical difficulties, so don't try visiting http://bit.ly/comprehension for the next week! Thanks!)

Year Five Fiction: Writing a Comic Story Based on a Journal Idea

Writers gather ideas in a journal. Year Five have been keeping journals of comic ideas.

Homework: Please write a humorous story based on one of the story plans you came up with in class when you were working with Mrs Mannan. Write one-and-a-half side of A4.

Don't forget to use a full range of descriptive techniques and plenty of thoughts and feelings.

Feeling clever? Include the joining and listing commas, and then annotate your 'finished' work to show me where you've used them!

Due: Monday.
