This is my 1,000th Blog Post! And Year Five Homework

Bald Worm' Blog began way back in Autumn 2007 to promote the use of - my 11+ short story techniques sites, and to provide girls with a simple method for learning about their English homework. Over the years the blog has grown to include photos, video and podcasts, and examples of the pupils' work - like the digital recreation of King Duncan's murder above.

Since Autumn 2007, 'Bald Worm's blog' has received over 192,000 page views - and over 100,000 unique visitors! Thank you to all the girls and visitors who have taken the time to visit. I hope it has proven useful!

Task: Tomorrow we are going to have a mini-test on the capital cities you researched as part of our Geography topic. Learn the capitals tonight!

Year Five Composition: Montmorency's Sewer

We are studying Eleanor Updale's brilliant Montmorency!

1. Please write a second draft of the 'stinking sewer' description. Try to include lots of colour - and the olfactory sense!

2. Please complete the 'Self-Assessment for Self-Improvement' sheet. Be self-critical!

Year Five Weekend Homework

We have begun learning to write stories set in the Victorian period. We will be learning to develop our use of descriptive techniques.
Task: Please write a 10-12 line description based on the Victorian image. Try to use as many of our descriptive techniques as you can; don't forget to try to reach 'level 5' on the punctuation pyramid as you write!

1. Decide on your country;
2. Begin your research (a) the capital, (b) the major geographical features and (c) the currency.

Year Five: Writing up Drones Club Story for Display

Write up first 15 lines of your Drones Club story in sharp lead pencil. Use your neatest handwriting style - and make sure you join your letters!

Include all four of the characterisation techniques.

Please illustrate (using coloured pencils only). You could draw:
* Pigs
* Top Hats
* Cocktail glasses
* Jeeves

An Inspector Calls...

Next week, the Falcons School for Girls will be welcoming a team of inspectors. How can you prepare, girls?

2. Make sure your dress and hair - including hair ties - is immaculate;
3. Polish your shoes
4. Tidy your pencil case and bag. Do you have all the correct pens?
