Next week is Book Week. Monday is the class poetry competition. Please make sure that (i) you learn your poem 'by heart' and (ii) you bring in a copy of your poem on Monday so that I can prompt you if you forget your lines.

1. Please complete the 'Blitz cat' comprehension in your A4 purple book. Make sure you attempt all of the questions.

2. Please write an improved second draft of your advert. Write half-a-side of A4. Try to include all of the 'A Forest' techniques.

Task: Create an advert for 'Falcons Tooth Paste'. Write a paragraph of 10 lines using rhetorical questions, facts, statistics, experts and the rule of three.

The 'My Forest' mnemonic;
M - Markers or connectives to shape your writing
Y - Refer to 'you' and 'you're'
F - Facts
O - Opinions
R - Rhetorical Questions
E - Experts
S - Statistics
T - Rule of three (Repeat something 3 times for it to stick in peoples heads)

We've learnt about facts, the rule of three and rhetorical questions.

Task: Please write a paragraph - eight-ten lines or so - to persuade your Mum or Dad to let you go to bed an hour later. Don't forget to combine our persuasive techniques: facts, the rule of three and rhetorical questions. Finished? Check over your work and then annotate it using a gel pen, showing me where you have used the different rhetorical techniques.

Task: Write 10-12 lines persuading someone to purchase Falcons Toothpaste. Your audience is an adult. Try to include as many of our rhetorical techniques as you can!

Next week we'll be writing some adverts for the radio, so please try and listen to a commercial radio station like Capital or Heart and pay attention to the tricks they use during the ad breaks.

We are learning about the persuasive techniques used to persuade us to buy a product.
There is lots of advice - and a game - about persuasive writing here.

Task: In class you attempted to create a draft for a poster persuading someone to buy 'Falcons Chocolate'. Please produce a 'best' copy of that poster, using as many of our persuasive techniques as you can fit in!

Homework: Please look in newspapers & magazines and bring in at least one advert - and try to think which of our rhetorical skills is being used in the advert.
